CITY’S MUSIC SCENE CELEBRATED AT ‘SUNDERLAND LIVE’ FESTIVAL

26/05/2009

This year’s Sunderland Live Festival will see the city buzzing with music as two of the world’s biggest and best loved bands take to the stage at the fantastic Stadium of Light in June.

Developed by Sunderland City Council in partnership with Sunderland Association Football Club and city partners (including Sunderland arc and Sunniside Partnership) have collaborated on a two-week programme that includes big names such as TAKE THAT (5 & 6 June) and OASIS (10 June) appearing at the Stadium of Light; festival brass and Sunderland’s emerging bands and DJs in Sunniside Gardens and Mowbray Park.

From singers and bands to ukulele players and string quartets, Sunderland city centre will be alive with FREE and ticketed live music performances pouring from pubs, parks and public spaces.

Sunniside Gardens will be hosting musical acts, including some of the city’s best current bands, all day on Saturday June 6 and Saturday June 13 . And thePlace will be the venue for the Sunderland Echo’s Sounds Xplosive competition, which aims to find the best band in Sunderland and East Durham. Sponsored by Sunniside-based Greenhouse Music and Sunniside Partnership, the final of the competition will take place on Friday June 12 from 6.30pm.

And throughout the two-week festival some of Sunniside’s top quality, stylish bars and restaurants will be hosting singers and bands from across the region.
